Should you sell now, or wait until summer? I’ll go over those options today.

Selling in the spring versus selling in the summer: Which is the best option for you? To give you some insight, I’ll talk about the benefits of each route. Since we’re still in spring, let’s start with its advantages:

1. You’ll be able to sell, find your new home, and enjoy the summer. Basically, you get a headstart on the process.

2. You’ll be moved into your new home by the start of the new school year. This is important to some of our clients. If it’s important to you too, starting your sale in the spring gives you a much better chance of making it happen.

3. You can beat other sellers to the market. In other words, the people who want to wait until summer to list. We know it’s a tight market out there, so that could work to your benefit. Inventory is low, and interest rates are low as well, which is driving the market.

“If you wait until June or July to list, you might not be able to sell your current home, buy your new home, and get moved in before August when kids are back in school.”

Here are the advantages of selling in the summer:

1. It’s easier! Especially if your kids are out of school, it’s easier on the front end to prep your home for the market and list it.

2. There are many potential buyers. Just like it’s easier for you to get your home ready for the market, it’s easier for buyers to go out and look at properties. Similarly, they’re not working around their kids’ schedules either.

What’s the downside of selling in the summer? For one thing, you might not be able to finish the process until the school year starts. If you wait until June or July to list, you might not be able to sell your current home, buy your new home, and get moved in before August when kids are back in school. This might create a little havoc in your life.

Also, we don’t know what the market will be like this summer. We think it will be like it is right now, but if we were to say we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, we’d have a crystal ball. I don’t have a crystal ball. All signs point to a great market, but we don’t really know.
